Colchester United's longest serving player Kem Izzet has signed a two year extension to his contract which will see him remain at the club until 2012.

25/02/10 - Lockwood loan extended
Colchester United's veteran defender Matt Lockwood will remain at Barnet untyil the end of the season following an extension to his loan deal. The left back who was loaned to Barnet in January was told his contract with Colchester United would not be renewed when it runs out this summer.

07/01/10 - United sign new striker
Colchester United have signed Ian Henderson on a free transfer from Turkish side Ankaragucu, the 24 year old striker has previously played for Luton, Northampton, Rotherham and Norwich. U's boss Aidy Boothroyd, who knew Henderson from his time as youth team coach, told BBC Essex "He's one of those players you hate playing against because he just doesn't stop running so he'll be a good addition for us".

01/01/10 - Boothroyd seals not one, but two deals!
Colchester United boss Aidy Boothroyd has completed the permanent signings of John-Joe O'Toole from Watford and Kayode Odejayi from Barnsley. Both players have been on loan with Colchester United since earlier in the season but these deals will see them remain at the Essex club until summer 2012.

23/12/09 - U's Chief Executive resigns
Colchester United chief executive Steve Bradshaw has today resigned from his post and left the club. Bradshaw was involved in a minor road accident earlier this month and failed the subsequent breath test. He had been in the role for just over a year after leaving his job at the club's Community Sports Trust.

22/12/09 - Nobby trains with the U's
Former Newcastle United and Aston Villa midfielder Nolberto Solano is currently training with Colchester United. Solano, who currently plays for Peruvian champions Universitario de Deportes, has come over at the request of Colchester United boss Aidy Boothroyd to see if a move to Essex would be of mutual interest to both player and club.

20/11/09 - Bristol Rovers sign U's defender on loan
Colchester United have agreed a loan deal with Bristol Rovers which will see defender Pat Baldwin join the west country club until January 2010. Baldwin has been with the U's since joining them in 2002 from Premier League side Chelsea.

08/10/09 - Boothroyd to let five players go
Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd has made five of his players available for temporary loan deals. The U's boss told BBC Essex "I'm happy for these players to go out and play games because that's what they need". The players in question are Matt Lockwood, Alan Maybury, Scott Vernon, Sam Corcoran and Russell Malton.

23/09/09 - Colchester United player coach resigns
Colchester United's player coach Gary Holt has parted company with the club after just 2 months, U's boss Aidy Boothroyd told the Colchester United website "Gary came to see me and said he thought it would be best for both parties for him to move on," he added, "I know Gary from our time at Norwich and there was no animosity, I respect his decision, we have parted on good terms and I will wish him well for the future."

17/09/09 - Colchester United sign Wolves defender on month long loan
Colchester United have signed Wolves defender Danny Batth on a one month loan in order to fill in for the U's injury problems in that area of the field. Currently defenders Pat Baldwin, Lee Beevers and Pat Reid are all out injured and in an interview with BBC Essex U's boss Aidy Boothroyd said "he's very quick, he's athletic and he's a good one-on-one defender, he's everything you need in a centre-half,"

02/09/09 - United sign Watford midfielder
Colchester United have signed a loan deal with Watford for Republic of Ireland under 21 international John-Joe O'Toole which will see him remain with the club until January 2010. O'Toole played for Watford under new U's manager Aidy Boothroyd who told BBC Essex "He scored a lot of goals and did very well for me and I just thought it was the right time to perhaps bring him".

02/09/09 - Colchester United unveil new manager Aidy Boothroyd
Colchester United today announced their new manager, former Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd, appointed following the sudden departure of Paul Lambert last month. 38 year old Boothroyd told BBC Essex "The club is progressive, it's not on a downward, it's on an up and it wants to go forward," he added "That's what I want to do, I think there's a real chance of getting some momentum and getting some success here and I want to be a part of it.".

25/08/09 - midfielder unhappy in Colchester
Colchester United midfielder David Perkins has put in a transfer request because he has reportedly been unable to settle in the area. The reason for the transfer request was given by U's captain Pat Baldwin who told BBC Essex: "It was a little bit of a surprise, but he's spoken about it before that he's not entirely happy down here". The 27 year old Perkins has been at the club since July 2008, prior to that he played for Rochdale.

18/08/09 - Surprise move North by U's boss
Colchester United manager Paul Lambert has left the Essex club to join East Anglian rivals Norwich City. Lambert replaces Bryan Gunn who was sacked by the Norfolk club last week. Ironically it was Lambert's Colchester United who trounced Norwich City 7-1 in the season opener that ultimately sealed Gunn's fate as City boss. The 40 year old ex Scotland international had been at Colchester United for less than a year and leaves the club at the top of the table. Assistant boss Ian Culverhouse and football operations manager Gary Karsa will join Lambert at Norwich City.

Colchester United midfielder Johnnie Jackson has completed his transfer to East Midlands club Notts County for an undisclosed fee, the 27 year old who has signed a 3 year contract with the club told the BBC "They are a club with a future. Former Colchester United forward Kevin Lisbie has returned to the club on loan after signing for Ipswich Town just one year ago. The Weston Homes Community Stadium has been named this year's overall winner in the RICS East of England Awards. The RICS said the stadium is not only a fantastic new facility for Colchester United Football Club, but also benefits the wider community.

06/04/09 - Leeds United end Colchester United's play off chances
Colchester United's 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Leeds United has put paid to the Essex clubs hopes of making the play offs this season. Manager Paul Lambert said "We were right down there in 23rd, but because we gave it a fight people thought we should be up there, but we've just fallen short," and he added "The lads have done terrifically well to get themselves out of it and next season we'll push on".

Colchester United captain Dean Hammond was disappointed with his teams performance against Scunthorpe on Saturday. Speaking about the 3-0 loss which seriously dented Colchester United's play-off hopes he told BBC Essex "we're the ones out there playing, it's not down to anyone else" and added "as a team we've got to defend better, they were silly mistakes that shouldn't happen at this level, but it has".

Colchester United have won the battle with MK Dons to sign Cheltenham winger Ashley Young. The 23 year old will join the Essex club on loan until the end of the season, he told BBC Essex "I spoke to a couple of other clubs, but I know Steven Gillespie and also Lewis Gobern from my youth team days so that made it an easier decision to choose this club".

Colchester United have signed Carlisle's Simon Hackney for an undisclosed fee, the 24 year old winger agreed a contract with theU's which will see him remain at the club until 2011. Colchester United have signed 30 year old defender Alan Maybury until the end of the 08/09 season. Maybur was released by Leicester City at the end of last season following a loan spell with Aberdeen, he is delighted to get back into league football and told BBC Essex: "I just want to get settled and back playing but it just shows the current financial climate is hitting football as well".

Colchester United have signed French striker Joel Thomas for a fee of £125,000 from Scottish side Hamilton Academicals. The 22 year old joined Hamilton from German side Kaiserslautern last summer and went on to score once for them in ten appearances.

Colchester United's Australian defender Chris Coyne has left the East Anglian club and headed home to join Perth Glory in the hope that more first team football will lead to his selection for the Australian 2010 World Cup squad.
