Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen Alexander McQueen Alexander McQueen (1969 - 2010) English fashion designer Alexander McQueen was born in London, England. On leaving school he worked in Savile Row, then in Milan with Romeo Gigli. In 1994 Alexander McQueen received his Masters degree when his graduation collection was bought by Isabella Blow. This effectively launched his fashion career and he soon became a designer for the Givenchy fashion house. Alexander McQueen remained with Givenchy from 1996 until 2001 during which time he released a number of controversial collections. Alexander McQueen went on to collaborate with Gucci and Puma. On 11th February 2010 Alexander McQueen was found dead at his home in London, his body was found hanging in a wardrobe, he had committed suicide. His death came on the eve of the funeral of his Mother who had passed away 9 days earlier. Alexander McQueen was 40 years old.
