Gianni Versace - (1946 - 1997) Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace was born in Reggio di Calabria, Italy.  Gianni Versace moved to Milan in 1971 to work in design and was hired by 3 of Milan's fashion houses to design their collections. In the late 70's Gianni Versace reached a milestone when he presented his first womenswear collection. In 1997 Gianni Versace was shot dead on the front steps of his Miami Beach mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Today the Gianni Versace fashion empire is one of the biggest and most famous in the world.
