England Rugby team
the England Rugby (Union) team (formed in 1871) represent the country in the annual Six Nations Championship (against France, Wales, Ireland, Italy and Scotland), the annual Calcutta Cup (against Scotland) and the Rugby World Cup which takes place every 4 years. England play their home matches at Twickenham and have enjoyed some success in the Six Nations championship over the years winning the competition more than 20 times which include many Grand Slams (whereby one team beats all of their opponents throughout the competition).
The Rugby World Cup began in 1987 and takes place every 4 years, to date England have reached the final three times, the first of which was the 1991 Rugby World Cup when they were beaten by Australia. At the 2003 Rugby World Cup they gained revenge under the captaincy of Martin Johnson beating Australia 20-17 in a nail biting match won by a Jonny Wilkinson drop kick with 26 seconds of extra time remaining. England's third appearance in the final came at the 2007 Rugby World Cup when they lost a close fought match to South Africa.
