Liverpool Football Club reached the FA Cup final most recently in 2006, at the end of the 2007/08 season the final was played at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium (the 'new Wembley' was under construction) and was contested between Liverpool Football Club and West Ham United. The game didn't start well for Liverpool FC and by the half hour mark they found themselves 2-0 down. A Jamie Carragher own goal on 21 minutes and a goalkeeping error by Pepe Reina, which Dean Ashton capitalised on, 7 minutes later had left Liverpool FC with a mountain to climb. The reds reacted quickly and within 5 minutes a Steven Gerrard cross found Djibril Cisse who volleyed in for Liverpool FC to bring the score back to 2-1 which is how it remained at half time.
Liverpool FC started the second half as they finished the first and within 10 minutes Steven Gerrard volleyed in their equaliser. The game swung one way and the other until the 64th minute when West Ham regained the advantage through a Paul Konchesky cross that floated in the net over the helpless Pepe Reina. Liverpool FC battled through the remaining 26 minutes of normal time without success, then in the 1st minute of injury time Steven Gerrard shot from 35 yards and found the back of the net to score one of the goals of the season and to take Liverpool FC into extra time time.
The game remained drawn at the end of extra time and went to a penalty shoot out where Liverpool FC goalkeeper Pepe Reina saved three of West Ham's penalties to bring the cup back to Anfield.
