the Italian sportswear brand Lotto was formed in 1973 by the Caberlotto family, owners of the Italian football club Treviso. Lotto started out manufacturung tennis shoes but the production of football, basketball, athletics, and volleyball footwear soon followed, Lotto then expanded their product range to include sportswear and today Lotto is a multi million euro business distributing in more than 60 countries worldwide. throughout the 70's Lotto focused on building their brand name within the Italian market focusing on becoming a main player in the sport of tennis. The following decade Lotto produced their first football boot and at the same time drove forward their marketing campaign with a number of high profile sponsorship deals. Lotto signed sportsman such as tennis stars John Newcombe, Andrei Gomes and Jose Luis Clerc and Ruud Gullit and the Dutch national football team and became a leading tennis and football brand. Lotto sponsored players in both world cup finals during the 80's, Spain '82 and Mexico '86 and their international market share grew rapidly. during the 90's Lotto continued with their sponsorship of players in the 3 world cup finals of the decade Italy '90, USA '94 and France '98, then in 1999 the company was taken over by a group of local businessmen headed by Andrea Tomat. In recent years Lotto have continued their presence in the world cup finals in Korea/Japan '02 and in Germany '06 when several of 'the Azzurri', the tournament winning Italian national team wore Lotto's revolutionary new Zhero Gravity boots.
