Darren Barr Fletcher, more commonly known as Manchester United and Scotland Midfield footballer Darren Fletcher, was born on 01 February 1984 in Dalkeith, Scotland. Darren Fletcher, a Manchester United player through and through, joined the club at youth level as a 16 year old in July 2000. The following February 2001 Darren Fletcher signed a professional contract with the Premiership club and after overcoming a number of injuries he made his debut in a European match, one of only two games he appeared in, during the 02/03 season. Darren Fletcher began to feature in the Manchester United first team proper during the following 03/04 season making 35 appearances and winnng his first trophy with the club, the 2004 FA Cup.

In the meantime Darren Fletcher began his Scotland international career and scored his first goal during his second call-up in an October 2003 Euro 2004 qualifying match against Lithuania. He went on to establish his international career and even lead his country out as Captain on some occasions.

Darren Fletcher's first goal for Manchester United came during the 04/05 season on the 01 January 2005 in a 2-0 Premiership win against Middlesborough. During the 05/06 and 06/07 seasons Darren Fletcher continued to feature in United's first team albeit mainly coming off of the bench however the midfielder still added to his medal tally as Sir Alex Ferguson's side lifted the 2007 Premier League trophy. Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo were already ahead of Darren Fletcher in the Manchester United pecking order and so the arrival of Owen Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani meant even less appearances for him during the 07/08 season but he still came away from the campaign with a 2008 Premier League, a UEFA Champions League and a Fifa club World Cup winners medal. On 03 October 2008 Darren Fletcher signed an extension to his existing contract which would keep him at Manchester United until 2012.
