Nemanja Vidić was born on 21 October 1981 in Titovo Užice, Serbia. Now playing for Manchester United Nemanja Vidić began his football career at the age of seven with local team Jedinstvo Užice. Nemanja Vidić showed a great talent for the game and at age twelve switched clubs to play for Sloboda Užice then, before he had reached his fifteenth birthday he had been signed to the youth side of one of Serbia's biggest teams, Red Star Belgrade. The senior career of Nemanja Vidić began in 2000 when he was loaned by Red Star to FK Spartak Subotica. At the end of the loan deal Nemanja Vidić returned to Red Star Belgrade where he became a regular in their starting line-up, his first senior successes with the club coming in the 01/02 season when they won the Yugoslav cup. In the next few seasons Nemanja Vidić earned the captains armband at Red Star and led them to the 2004 domestic double winning both the Serbia and Montenegro League and Cup.
Nemanja Vidić featured in the youth team for Serbia and Montenegro on a number of occasions and made his international debut for the senior squad in a match against Italy on 12 October 2002. He helped Serbia and Montenegro to qualify for the Germany 2006 World Cup Finals and was part of the squad that travelled to the tournament, however, he played no part due initially to a suspension and then an injury picked up in training. Serbia became independant from Montenegro some time after the finals and Nemanja Vidić then continued to be a part of the Serbian national team.
Nemanja Vidić left Red Star Belgrade in July 2004 to join Russian premier league side Spartak Moscow where he remained for two seasons making 39 appearances and scoring 4 goals. The ability of Nemanja Vidić as a defender soon came to the attention of Europe's biggest clubs and midway through the 05/06 season on 5 January 2006 Nemanja Vidić was signed by one of the world's richest clubs, Manchester United. Just under 3 weeks after signing, on 20 January 2006, Nemanja Vidić made his debut for the English Premier League side in a Carling Cup semi-final against Blackburn Rovers. The following 06/07 season saw Nemanja Vidić become a regular in the Manchester United first team where he quickly formed a strong central defensive partnership with Rio Ferdinand. In his first full season with the club Nemanja Vidić made 39 appearances, scored 4 goals and came away with a medal as Manchester United won the English Premier League title. The following 07/08 season Nemanja Vidić was an integral part of the Manchester United team that achieved the double, winning both the English Premier League and the UEFA Champons League.
