Newcastle United FC formed in 1892 and are among the top 10 most successful clubs in English football, they play their home games at the impressive St James Park stadium. Known as 'the Magpies' Newcastle United FC play in English football's top flight Premier League and those who support the club refer to themselves as the 'Toon Army', their fierce rivals are Sunderland F.C. with whom they contest the traditional 'Tyneside derby'.
Newcastle United FC have enjoyed footballing success however much of this was in their earlier years and they have had very little to celebrate in the past 50 years. To date they have won the English First Division (now the Premier League) four times (between 1904 and 1927). the FA Cup six times and the League Cup twice.
